The Tortoise is four years old: thanks to all our supporters
If one dog year equals seven human years, we wonder about the equation for newspapers, especially as we celebrate our fourth year of publishing. Sure seems like it has been 28 years, but maybe that is only because we are wrapping up our usual grueling, mad-dash-to-the-
deadline production weekend.
For those readers who have been with us for all four years, we offer our most sincere appreciation for taking the time to pick up a copy of the Tortoise each month. (And for being patient with us when it is not always where you expect to find it distributed.)
For those who have been reading us less regularly, or those who are even looking over your first issue, we say "thank you" for choosing our newspaper, even if it is, ahem, periodically.
The Tortoise has experienced a few changes through the years. In the beginning, we were focused on spreading the word about the Green Party; we are no longer so single-minded, although a lot of those organization's values still resonate with us.
Our mission is to cover and represent the Big Bend community as best we can. The North Florida region, especially Tallahassee with its colleges and capital city influence, is rife with diverse stories and people, and our goal each month is to share with you when we hear about them or they contact us.
That is perhaps one of the key elements to remember about the Tortoise: we want to know what is going on in this community, which is how you can help make an even bigger impact. Contact us through e-mail at apalacheetortoise@hotmail.com or if you know someone on the masthead to the right, tell us in person about a story you would like to see written. Perhaps it is even your story.
Again, we thank you for supporting the Tortoise.
